A recent report from The New York Times reveals that people are being charged more than $100 for nicotine salts.
According to the report, some users are paying up to $60 for the drug in the US alone, with many more paying as much as $1,000.
“We don’t want to discourage people from buying these products,” a company spokesperson told The Times.
“We have made it very clear that these are not safe for use, and we expect all consumers to take the necessary steps to avoid this type of misuse.”
The report also reveals that the cost of the drug has risen in the past year, and that many people are now paying over $1 a pill, a figure that is expected to rise even further over the next year.
According the report:For a high-cost drug, the price of a packet of nicotine salts is between $1 and $5, but a person buying 10 packets of nicotine salt would have to pay at least $4.80, according to data from the US Department of Agriculture’s Consumer Product Safety Commission.
That price is higher than the $1.60 a pack that a typical person would pay in Canada, where the average is $1 for 100 packets.
The price of nicotine is a major source of concern for consumers, with the drug currently being sold in several countries across the world.
The report states that many companies have made efforts to keep the price at or below that of other drugs, such as methamphetamine, by lowering the potency of the product.
